Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Activity of Sambucus sieboldiana Water Extract

Abstract
The leaf and root bark of sambucus sieboldiana(SS) have been used the treatment of bone fracture and inflammatory disease in the folk medicine. The goal of this work was to reveal the biological active part of this medicinal plant:leaf, petriole, xylem, bark. Experiments were carried out in the animal model of inflammation and hypersensitivities which were induced by acetic acid(HAc), carageenin, complete Freund¢¥s adjuvant(CFA), and dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB), respectively.
It shows that all of water extracts of leaf, petriole, xylem and bark of SS have a moderate analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-hypersenwitivity activity, respectively. They inhibit significantly the HAc-induced writing syndrome, water extract of xylem have the most analgesic activity as same as aspirin. They inhibit significantly carageenin-induced paw edema 3 hour after inflammatory agent, water extract of xylem have the most anti-inflammatory activity. They also inhibit dose-dependently CFA-induced paw edema, but not serum protein, globulin and A/G ratio 15 days after inflammatory agent, water extract of xylem have the most anti-inflammatory activity. They also inhibit dose-dependently the mast cell degranulation of mesentery and skin in CFA-induced hypersensitivity, but not DNCB-induced hypersensitivities, water extract of petriole have the most inhibitory activity. They inhibit significantly Arthus reaction and delayed hypersensitivities in CFA-induced paw edema, and also they inhibit significantly hemolysin titer, plague forming cell and resette forming cell, water extract of petriole have the most ingibitory activity in model of hypersensitivity.
